  Pecan wood smoked. Like no other! Since 1967. All natural ingredients. Gluten free. In 1967, my parents opened their restaurant on the Driftwood ranch where my father was born and raised. It was a popular gathering place for locals, but it was also an attraction for deer who would come to lick the salt and minerals in exposed rocks scattered throughout the property. That's how Truman Roberts, Sr. & Hisako T. Roberts gave the Salt Lick Bar-B-Que its famous name. They did everything by hand. They credited the quality of their food to cooking with love and care, and they were only satisfied when the job was done right. We're proud to continue that tradition.   Out there in Driftwood, Texas since 1967. In 1967, my father and mother. Thurman Roberts, Sr. & Hisako T. Roberts, started the Salt Lick Bar-B-Q restaurant on the ranch where he was born and raised. Why I did they choose Salt Lick for it's name? It happened that the large rocks on the ranch were very attractive to the local deer as they would gather around and lick salt and minerals found in the rocks as well as this spot was also a popular gathering spot for the local ranchers, Thus the name The Salt Lick. The stones of the Salt Lick building were quarried from that very land. Everything was done with their own hands - building and cooking with care and love resulting in a pride in it's quality and the satisfaction of a job done right. To our original recipe bar-b-que sauce, at Lauren's suggestion, we have added just the right amount of imported habanero pepper sauce to give this recipe a kick that is spicy enough to bring added flavor to one's bar-b-que, but not too spicy to enjoy time and time again.
