Pair this dry red wine Cabernet Sauvignon with herb-crusted lamb or a juicy, seasoned burger topped with goat cheese and caramelized onions. Grapes for the Folie a Deux Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were carefully selected from prime vineyards in northern Sonoma's renowned Alexander Valley. Stretching 22 miles from Healdsburg to Cloverdale following the Russian River's winding course, this appellation is noted for its high quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vineyards, which benefit from the region's warm climate, marine-cooled evenings and well-drained, volcanic hillside soils, resulting in a rich Cabernet Sauvignon red wine with smooth, well-structured tannins. This dry red wine undergoes an extended maceration period of 10 to 16 days, following a fermentation temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The wine is aged for 22 months in French oak (21% new), giving this Cabernet wine a plush, layered palate. This bottled wine has 14.5% alcohol by volume. Folie a Deux wines are exclusively sourced from Sonoma appellations, where each variety thrives in local terroir. Hilltop J.Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon - 750 ml, $33.99
From the high point of our Paso Robles vineyards, one can view a panorama of protective hills and ranges, a position befitting our J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon. We planted Clone 8 Cabernet Sauvignon on its own roots in 1989, amidst Arbuckle-San Ysidro complex fine loam soil with some calcareous clay layers underneath. The tiny berried fruit is picked mid-morning, then sorted by individual berry before being crushed into small stainless steel fermenters, and given 48 hours of skin contact. During fermentation, a combination of punch-downs and gentle pumpovers ensures an appropriate balance of extraction of color, flavor and fragrance. The wine is then pressed and undergoes malolactic fermentation before it is blended and racked into new and second-fill French oak barrels for 18-24 months of aging. Lastly, it is fined and bottled, yielding a wine which is aromatically pleasing, with deliciously intense flavors of black cherry, blackberry and toasted vanilla. Alc 14.9% by vol. Produced at Paso Robles, CA and Bottled at San Jose, CA by J. Lohr Winery.
