Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Wine - 750 ml, $12.99
My father's name was Joseph, as is mine, but his friends just called him Josh. Growers, that I call friends, all lend a hand in this, winemakers wine, what we jokingly refer to as a vin de garage; a handcrafted wine we made just for ourselves. This Cabernet Sauvignon created in a Bordeaux style blend, offers ripe black currant flavors, and deep dark fruit nuances, accented by spice and smoke, matched with a long soft finish. A wine that is bold and expressive but unassuming, and approachable. It's funny how these characteristics seem to remind me of someone that I knew.

The 2020 vintage shows characteristics that are rich and sophisticated on the nose with currant, black cherry, cedar and eucalyptus, and displays undertones of briary blackberry and wet gravel. Ancillary aromas of coffee and cocoa are rounded out nicely with notes of crushed sage and baking spice. Full bodied and formidable on the palate, offering enticing and juicy wild blackberry, Oregon blueberry and crisp black cherry flavors. Hints of plum and mulberry are accentuated with fig, black olives and fine leather. Excellent structure and harmony between the pure fruit core and firm, supple backbone of polished tannins. Finish is surprisingly elegant for a wine of such power. Cabernet Sauvignon from United States Alcohol By Volume: 14.50% Color: Red

Groth 40th Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon California Red Wine, 750 ml - 750 Milliliter, $81.99
In 1981, Dennis and Judy Groth took a huge leap of faith and acquired a 121-acre vineyard property in Oakville, the heart of Napa Valley. Four years later Dennis walked away from his successful executive role at Atari and the family made the Oakville vineyard estate their home. Their belief in the vineyards continued to grow, they were encouraged by new friends and Napa neighbors that helped them settle in. By 1985 they were rewarded with an exceptional vintage of Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, one that would go on to capture a 100-point rating from the Wine Advocate. This became a strategic turning point, as no American wine had ever received a perfect score from any wine publication. By 1990, their relentless dedication and stellar wine reviews had transformed the property into a renowned winery, firmly establishing Groth's presence on the wine map. Today, Suzanne Groth, the daughter of Dennis, and Judy, now leads the family's thriving wine business. Their shared belief, curiosity, and dedication drive the team to continually evolve in the endless pursuit of quality. Rooted in Oakville and with the reins of the winery firmly in the family's grasp, we are resolute in our commitment to leaving a legacy for generations to come. This deep and dense garnet-hued wine opens with macerated blackberry aromas intertwined with freshly baked graham cracker crust. Layers of complexity unfold with the addition of cocoa nibs, hibiscus tea, hints of poppy seed and an underlying presence of graphite, adding depth and sophistication. On the palate, bright and refreshing notes of sour cherry and juicy raspberry take center stage, accompanied by the depth of black currant. A touch of rhubarb introduces a subtle tartness that complements the sweetness of the fruit and paprika notes add a nuanced spiciness to the overall character. The tannins, initially robust, gradually melt away, leaving behind a velvety texture and finish. - Director of Winegrowing Ted Henry
