Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What are the hours of operation for the museum and playground?
A: Museum and playground hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am–4pm.

Q: What is the cost of admission to the museum and playground?
A: Both the museum and playground general admissions are FREE! (There is a fee for parties, however.)

Q: Can I schedule a tour of the museum?
A: Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to schedule a tour with the museum. Visitors with less than 10 people do not need a pre-scheduled tour. Guided tours are available for grades 1-12. View additional information on group reservations.

Q: Can I have a birthday party there?
A: Birthday parties can be scheduled in our park. A reservation is required along with a $50 fee. Call (903) 534-2169 during open hours for more information or to make your reservation.

Q: How many animals are on exhibit in the museum?
A: The museum features more than 450 animals from North America and Africa.

Q: What years did Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Brookshire go on Safari to Africa?
A: In 1967, 1969 and 1971, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Brookshire embarked on African safaris to bring the unique African wildlife back to Texas.

Q: Can we touch the animals?
A: Touching of the museum animals causes damage, so touching is not permitted.

Q: What year did the Museum open?
A: Originally opened in 1975 in the lobby of Brookshire’s office complex, the Museum was expanded in 1976 and moved to its current location in 1990.

Q: What year does the country store represent?
A: The country store is a life-sized replica of a 1920’s grocery store, which gives visitors a close look at a past era of the supermarket industry.

Q: What are the rules for the playground and museum?
A: No pets, alcohol or tobacco of any kind are allowed on the premises. No food or drinks allowed in the exhibit area of the museum. Adult supervision is required for playground and museum visits. View playground rules.

Q: Can we have a picnic at the museum?
A: Individuals and groups are invited to bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic lunch in the picnic area located on the playground adjacent to the museum.

Q: Does the Museum Gift Shop accept credit cards?
A: Yes, we accept credit and debit cards, as well as cash and local checks (with proper identification).
