Please know there are no plans for the Brookshire’s museum and playground located on Old Jacksonville Highway to permanently close. However, this location will remain closed temporarily until we have taken every possible measure to ensure the highest degree of safety for our visitors and staff. We are going above and beyond in proactive safety measures following an accidental ammonia refrigeration release recently at one of our warehouses. Although it is our full intention and desire to reopen as soon as we safely can, we do not have a definitive timeline. We realize Brookshire’s museum and playground are a favorite destination in Tyler, Smith County and East Texas, and we appreciate our friends, neighbors and the community for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through safety protocols.
About the Museum
One of the most popular attractions in East Texas, Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum and Country Store offers a fun and educational adventure– for free! Life-sized replicas of a mother elephant and her two babies, along with a mother rhino, her baby and a giraffe, greet visitors at the entrance of Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum and Country Store. Inside this unique museum, more than 450 mammals, reptiles, fowl and aquatic species from Africa and North America are on display. The museum contains spectacular, realistic wildlife dioramas with educational information included for each of the animals. A visit to the Brookshire’s Country Store gives museum guests a nostalgic look at yesteryear by displaying grocery items from the 1920’s. Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum and Country Store offers visitors of all ages a first-hand look at wildlife, as well as a glimpse into the past; an experience that is unequaled in East Texas.
The Museum, Country Store and Playground are open weekly Tuesday through Saturday and are free to the public as a community service of Brookshire Grocery Company. New and returning visitors find this impressive attraction ideal for the whole family as they explore the fascinating forests, savannas and arctic regions of the Brookshire’s World of Wildlife Museum and Country Store. Your patronage of Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and FRESH by Brookshire’s makes the facility possible.
Playground and Picnic Area
The museum also offers a playground for the children and an outdoor picnic area for your convenience. The playground has three designated age-appropriate areas with equipment that meets or exceeds safety standards. Canopies provide shade for much of the play area and a pavilion covers an antique firetruck. Adult supervision is required for all areas.
