National Night Out – A group of partners volunteered to serve tea, water and other cold drinks at the annual National Night Out in Quitman for eight hours.

Chili Cook-Off – Partners competed in the Annual Pilot Club Chili Cook Off. They had a team of 4 attend the event and put their chili to the test. The store donated a $25 gift card to the winner. Eight partners volunteered for forty-eight hours helping set up, decorate, cook chili, tear down and clean up.

Chamber of Commerce- Store Director Davin Catlin attended the meeting as a director on the board to represent Brookshire’s as a business in town. They discussed items such as social events to promote business.

Quitman Christmas Sharing- Four partners volunteered for eighteen hours handing out the free hen coupons and loaded the product into cars for the event.

Annual Veteran’s Day Parade – Partners prepared a float to ride in the parade and also had a tent set up in the park, which was the endpoint of the parade. They sold turkey dinners to donate to local veterans in need for Thanksgiving. Partners volunteered for sixty-three hours.

Health Fair – Two partners volunteered for five hours at a health fair in the Forever Young Building. They provided shots and let people know about their delivery service as well as other services Brookshire’s provides.

Chamber of Commerce Softball Tournament – For the second year in a row, partners have played in the Quitman Chamber of Commerce Softball Tournament for twenty hours.

Softball Fundraiser – Five partners volunteered to play in a softball tournament for the Jacob Coats Scholarship fund for the local high school. They played for fifteen hours.

Pilot’s Club Special Olympic Track Meet – Ten partners volunteered to keep times and walk athletes to their places and more importantly cheer them on. The store donated hot dog supplies for the athletes. They volunteered for sixty-six hours.

Pilot Club’s Annual Chili Cook-Off – Partners won the best Showmanship award for their enthusiasm and dressing for the chosen theme. Also, the store donated a wedding cake that was auctioned off.

Chamber of Commerce Softball Tournament – A group of 14 partners participated in the softball tournament. The team practiced for two day and then competed for 6 hours on tournament day. All proceeds benefitted the Quitman Chamber of Commerce.

Quitman’s Annual Ice Cream Social – Several partners from the store volunteered to represent the store at the Annual Ice Cream Social held at the town’s park. The store donated the ice cream with all the items to make sundaes with. Nine partners volunteered for forty-one hours.

Susan Komen Race for the Cure – Eight partners ran during the annual Susan Komen Race that started at Bergfeld Park. All proceeds from the race go towards fighting breast cancer and funds national research for cures.

Blood Drive – Fourteen partners volunteered to donate blood. The blood drive bus comes to the store every two months. Thirty-five partners and customers donated on this day.

Quitman Arboretum Clean Up Day – Six partners volunteered their time to help plant trees, bushes and clean up old hedges. They assisted painting and doing all sorts of outdoors work for thirty-five hours.

Ice Cream Social – The store participated in the annual Ice Cream Social held at Jim Hogg Park in Quitman. Eight partners served the citizens Goldenbrook Ice Cream and sundaes. They volunteered for over thirty-two hours.

Susan Komen 5K – Annual race that is held at Bergfeld Park with over 4,700 runners and walkers involved. Eleven partners participated in the walk/run. Money raised from the race funded grants that benefited breast cancer research.

Wood County Livestock Auction – Brookshire managers took part in purchasing a hog from a local student in the area at the livestock show.

1st Annual Fire Dept. 5K Fun Run – Event was held at Gov. Jim Hogg State Park and partners assisted in the run.

Community Health Fair and Haunting in the Park – Brookshire’s sponsored a community-wide health fair in the park. They talked about nutrition and the Nu-Val scoring system. Later that evening they gave out candy to the children that came through.

Bras and Boots – This is an annual event where men wear a bra over their shirt to raise money for breast cancer. Brookshire’s also catered the event. Partners volunteered their time to serve at the event.

Fire Prevention – Store management went to Quitman Elementary Schools and had Fire Prevention Programs for the students. They volunteered over 16 hours.

Old Settlers Reunion – Partners volunteered to assist with bingo from 6 – 10 pm each night at Gov. Jim Hogg Park. The 100 degree heat was barely noticeable because the fun was so abundant.

2nd Annual Quitman Ice Cream Social – Partners served Goldenbrook Ice Cream to over 600 members of the community at Hogg Park. Also, they helped participate in other activities throughout the event.
