TYLER, Texas, Dec. 2, 2014 – Brookshire’s and Kellogg recently teamed up to donate $10,000 worth of milk to Feeding America member food banks that serve communities in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
From Sept. 17 – 23, for every three Kellogg-brand items purchased, Brookshire’s donated one gallon of milk to a local food bank in its market area. More than 2,200 gallons were donated to five food banks: East Texas Food Bank, Tarrant Area Food Bank, Harvest Texarkana Food Pantry, Northwest Louisiana Food Bank and Northeast Louisiana Food Bank.
The promotion was part of The Great American Milk Drive, the first nationwide program to deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry families. Milk is one of the most requested items by food banks, but it is rarely donated, leaving many families with limited access to milk’s essential nutrients.
To date, nearly 200,000 gallons of milk have been donated through The Great American Milk Drive to Feeding America food banks throughout the United States, including a combined 6,700 gallons in Brookshire’s tri-state operating area.
