Company News: BGC departs Monday for 10th Heroes Flight


BGC departs Monday for 10th Heroes FlightTYLER, Texas, May 20, 2015 – Brookshire Grocery Co. is gearing up to escort a group of 30 World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C., May 25-28 on its 10th Heroes Flight.

Provided by BGC at no cost to those selected for the trip, the Heroes Flight is designed to recognize WWII and Korean War veterans for their service and sacrifices and allows them to see the memorials built in their honor. Twenty BGC employees will also accompany the group as guardians.

In addition to visiting the WWII and Korean War memorials, the group will also be led on a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). The veterans will also get to participate in the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Other points of interest will include the Washington Monument and the Air and Space Museum, along with the U.S. Marines, Navy, Air Force, Lincoln, Vietnam, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials.

Once this trip is completed, BGC will have taken more than 300 WWII veterans to Washington, D.C, since establishing the Heroes Flight program in 2010.

Veterans selected for this trip are from towns throughout East Texas including Big Sandy, Bullard, Gilmer, Grand Saline, Henderson, Jefferson, Longview, Mineola, Omaha, Pittsburg, Rusk, Tyler, Van and Wills Point. A veteran from Shreveport, Louisiana, will also be participating.

A send-off event will begin at 12:15pm Monday at FRESH by Brookshire’s, located at 6991 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler. Hot dogs and chips will be provided. The group is scheduled to return to FRESH on Thursday around 3:45pm The community is invited to send-off and welcome home the veterans.

Company News: BGC supports tornado relief efforts in Van Zandt County


BGC supports tornado relief efforts in Van Zandt CountyTYLER, Texas, May 20, 2015 – Following the aftermath of the severe weather that affected communities in Van Zandt County, Brookshire Grocery Co. is showing its support for the disaster relief efforts, both in its stores and operations support areas.

“We Stand with Van” T-shirts are now available for purchase at Brookshire’s stores in Canton, Emory, Grand Saline, Lindale, Mineola, Tyler (Rice Road and Roseland Boulevard locations only), Van and Wills Point. The T-shirts cost $10, and all proceeds will be donated to support relief efforts in Van. In addition, customers may make monetary donations through $1 scan coupons purchased at the register. Funds from scan coupon sales will be donated to the American Red Cross to assist communities affected by the spring storms and tornadoes, which includes Van and other areas in Van Zandt County.

Along with the T-shirt and scan coupons sales, BGC has been assisting disaster relief efforts in several other ways. Corporately, BGC donated flashlights, can openers, baby food, brooms, trash bags, Gatorade, water and ice to local churches and relief agencies in Van for distribution among the community. The company also provided hot lunches for Van residents and volunteers throughout the week after the tornado struck the town.

In addition, hundreds of employees from surrounding Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores and corporate headquarters in Tyler have volunteered their time to help clean up debris, serve meals, raise money and sort clothing and other donated goods.

Company News: FRESH 15 donates $138K in race proceeds to four charities


FRESH 15 donates $138K in race proceeds to four charitiesTYLER, Texas, May 15, 2015 – A total of $138,000 was raised through Brookshire Grocery Co.’s second annual FRESH 15 road race, held March 7 at FRESH by Brookshire’s in Tyler.

All proceeds from the event were formally presented in recent weeks to the four benefiting charities: Bethesda Health Clinic, $60,000; Team Red, White and Blue, $31,000; The SEAL Legacy Foundation, $27,000; and FitSTEPS for Life, $20,000.

“With the support of nearly 4,000 runners and volunteers, and our vendor partners, we were able to raise $50,000 more for our charities than last year’s race,” said Trent Brookshire, senior vice president – division manager for BGC. “We couldn’t be more proud of the overall outcome of this year’s FRESH 15 and can’t wait to see what next year’s race will bring.”

More than 3,300 participants competed in the 2015 FRESH 15, which featured 15K, 5K and kids 1K races. Registration for the third annual FRESH 15 race, set for March 5, 2016, opens July 4. For more information, visit FRESH15K.

Company News: Brookshire’s launches third annual Gatorade promotion to benefit first responders


TYLER, Texas, May 13, 2015 – With the hot summer months approaching, Brookshire’s has once again teamed up with Gatorade to keep local emergency first responders throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas hydrated as they work to keep our communities safe.

Today through June 9, customers will receive +200 BONUS yourpoints for every five 32 oz bottles of Gatorade purchased in a single transaction at any Brookshire’s location. Customers are encouraged to then donate Gatorade to be given to local firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians who serve areas where Brookshire’s Food Stores are located.

Collection bins are located in each store. All Gatorade will be donated as bins are filled throughout the promotion to the organizations predetermined by each store.

Customers are encouraged to visit their local Brookshire’s store for more information on the promotion and the benefiting organizations in their area.

Company News: Annual Brookshire’s golf tournament raises record-breaking $500K for children’s charities


TYLER, Texas, April 27, 2015 – Approximately $500,000 was raised today through the 27th annual Brookshire’s Benefit Golf Tournament. The funds will be distributed among more than 100 children’s charities throughout Brookshire Grocery Co.’s three-state market area.

More than 660 golfers – comprised of BGC leaders, representatives from more than 230 vendor companies, and other business associates – competed at six golf courses throughout the Tyler area including The Cascades, Eagles Bluff, Garden Valley, Hollytree, Willow Brook and Pine Dunes country clubs.

 

This year’s record-breaking donation brings the total funds raised to more than $4 million since the tournament’s inception in 1988.

Company News: Delhi Brookshire’s celebrates grand reopening


DELHI, Louisiana, April 15, 2015 – A ribbon-cutting ceremony today officially marked the grand reopening of the remodeled Brookshire’s Food Store in Delhi, located at 802 Broadway. Mayor Jesse Washington served as emcee for the ceremony. Store Director Bill McKinney also presented charitable donations to Delhi High School, Delhi Charter School and the Delhi Volunteer Fire Department.

A refreshed storefront and new interior signage, paint, décor and lighting give the renovated supermarket a modern appearance. In addition, many departments throughout the store were updated to allow for an expanded assortment of product offerings. In the bakery, customers can purchase freshly baked goods, including bolillo rolls, and they can watch as bakers work on custom creations at the new cake decorating station. In the deli, expanded varieties of specialty cheeses are available, along with sliced-to-order deli meats. The market department offers fresh meat cut daily, with special cuts available upon request. A wide variety of fresh fruits and veggies are prominently displayed in the updated produce department, and the beer, wine and spirits section was expanded.

Other updates include new check stands and shopping carts, new restrooms, a new customer service center and refinished refrigerated display cases throughout the store.

All Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores feature the NuVal nutritional scoring system. With NuVal, thousands of items throughout the store are scored on a scale of 1 to 100. The higher an item’s NuVal score, the better the nutrition. Customers can use this at-a-glance program to easily determine the overall nutritional value of products and make informed decisions.

The grand opening festivities will continue throughout the following weeks with special promotions and product sampling events. For a limited time, customers can double their discount and earn 10 percent off their total grocery purchase when they redeem 500 yourpoints (see store for exclusions). In addition, on May 2 from 10am to 4pm, customers will have the opportunity to win prizes, sample products and receive other giveaways as a part of the Brookshire’s Brand store event. Company News: Brookshire’s in Longview Celebrates Grand Reopening


LONGVIEW, Texas, March 4, 2015 – Grand reopening festivities began today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the remodeled Brookshire’s Food Store in Longview, located at 3354 Gilmer Road. Mayor Jay Dean, Chamber of Commerce President Kelly Hall were among those in attendance. Store Director Bryan Jackson also presented charitable donations to the Spring Hill Independent School District, House of Hope and the Longview Chamber of Commerce’s Main Street Program.

Among the renovated supermarket’s features are a new storefront and new signage, paint and décor throughout. An expanded assortment of organic produce, along with fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, are available in the updated produce department. In addition, customers can purchase fresh meat cut-to-order in the market department and find an increased variety of fresh seafood options. The expanded beer and wine section features a wider assortment of imported wines and craft beers, while the updated bakery offers custom-made cakes and fresh tortillas made in-store daily.

Other updates include refinished customer restrooms, new check stands and expanded indoor and outdoor floral display areas. Additionally, the installation of polished concrete flooring, which requires fewer cleaning agents, and an automated lighting control system will help decrease the store’s impact on the environment.

The updated pharmacy will continue to fill name-brand and generic prescriptions, while offering a full selection of non-prescription medicines and health and personal care products. The generic prescription program provides savings on 30-, 60- and 90-day generic prescriptions. Pharmacy hours are 9am to 7pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday.

Jason Cooper receives National Grocers Association awardTYLER, Texas, Feb. 10, 2015 – Jason Cooper, director of compliance and government relations for Brookshire Grocery Company, received the Clarence G. Adamy Great American Award February 8th at the National Grocers Association’s annual convention in Las Vegas.

Named in honor of a past president of the National Association of Food Chains, the award is presented annually to an individual or company whose leadership in the food industry best exemplifies active and effective participation in government relations as a citizen and industry representative. Since its inception in 1982, the award has been presented to only 24 individuals including namesake Clarence Adamy and President George H.W. Bush.

Company News: BGC donates $70,000 to Texas Children’s Advocacy Centers


TYLER, Texas, Jan. 14, 2015 – Brookshire Grocery Co. today awarded Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas a $70,000 donation, which represents funds raised through the company’s 26th annual Benefit Golf Tournament hosted last April in Tyler.

The donation will be split equally between 14 Children’s Advocacy Centers in BGC’s operating areas throughout the state. Today’s donation brings the company’s total 2014 contributions to Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas to $111,000.

Proceeds from the tournament totaled more than $450,000 and was distributed to some 50-plus children’s charities and programs throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. Approximately 600 golfers, including representatives from more than 200 vendor companies, competed at six golf courses.

Since its inception, the BGC Benefit Golf Tournament has raised more than $3.8 million.

Company News: Spirit of Christmas Food Drive provides meals for over 16,000 families


TYLER, Texas, Jan. 7, 2015 – The results are in – more than 16,000 families throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas received a week’s worth of food this holiday season through Brookshire Grocery Company’s 33rd annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive.

From Nov. 19 – Dec. 20, participating BGC stores (which includes Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores and FRESH by Brookshire’s) collected donations of non-perishable food items and also sold pre-assembled “grab bags” and scan coupons for cash contributions. All donations stayed within each store’s community.

In total, approximately 500,000 pounds of food was collected and donated to local service organizations and food pantries for distribution to families in need. In addition, more than $41,000 from scan coupon sales was used to purchase additional food items. Along with a box of food, each family also received a coupon for a free roasting hen, courtesy of Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods.

The Spirit of Christmas Food Drive began in Tyler in 1982 with the Rose City Kiwanis Club, providing assistance to approximately 90 families in the Tyler area. In 2013, the food drive assisted more than 14,000 families in BGC’s operating area.
