BGC supports tornado relief efforts in Van Zandt CountyTYLER, Texas, May 20, 2015 – Following the aftermath of the severe weather that affected communities in Van Zandt County, Brookshire Grocery Co. is showing its support for the disaster relief efforts, both in its stores and operations support areas.

“We Stand with Van” T-shirts are now available for purchase at Brookshire’s stores in Canton, Emory, Grand Saline, Lindale, Mineola, Tyler (Rice Road and Roseland Boulevard locations only), Van and Wills Point. The T-shirts cost $10, and all proceeds will be donated to support relief efforts in Van. In addition, customers may make monetary donations through $1 scan coupons purchased at the register. Funds from scan coupon sales will be donated to the American Red Cross to assist communities affected by the spring storms and tornadoes, which includes Van and other areas in Van Zandt County.

Along with the T-shirt and scan coupons sales, BGC has been assisting disaster relief efforts in several other ways. Corporately, BGC donated flashlights, can openers, baby food, brooms, trash bags, Gatorade, water and ice to local churches and relief agencies in Van for distribution among the community. The company also provided hot lunches for Van residents and volunteers throughout the week after the tornado struck the town.

In addition, hundreds of employees from surrounding Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores and corporate headquarters in Tyler have volunteered their time to help clean up debris, serve meals, raise money and sort clothing and other donated goods.
