If you're bringing a new cat home to live with you, you might not realize that she'll need time to get used to her new family atmosphere. She may get overwhelmed if she's exposed to everything all at once. If you have other pets that she'll be joining, this is doubly important.
When you bring your cat home, place her in a room you've fixed up especially for her. Keep the room closed off from other animals and let her explore that area first. Open the crate door and let her come out at her own pace; don't tip the crate or force her out. Cats are curious and before long, she'll be interested in knowing what's going on. Leave the open carrier in the room so that she discovers a home base to return to. Give her plenty of time before opening the room door and introducing the rest of the family.
