Kids love to collect things, and come on….admit it….so do you. When you see a pretty stone or a cute little magnet, you want to take it home, even though you don't know what you'll ever do with it.
There are so many things to collect, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Here are some ways to help your kids enjoy collections—without them turning into clutter and junk.
Boxes: There are so many cute storage boxes available, but you don't have to buy one. You can decorate egg cartons, which are perfect for holding peppers, coins and shells. You can also put stickers and paint on shoe boxes or plastic tubs used to hold lunch meat.
Three-Ring Binder: Some delicate items, such as pressed flowers or leaves won't survive storage in a box. Your child can glue items to a paper with holes punched and then put them in a notebook. You can also put items in a zipper top bag, and punch the unzippered end of the bag—and file it in the three-ring binder, as well.
Jars and Bottles: Tall bottles are great ways to display crafts and collections. Be careful, though, if you use glass jars, since they're breakable. Plastic bottles are much more durable.
Larger items might fit into a bigger box or tub. Other collections look great on a shelf. Giving collections the attention they deserve—and the organization they need—helps everyone enjoy the project!
