Have you ever had Cincinnati Chili? If you ask most people, Cincinnati Chili is more than just chili—it's an art form. It's all about turning a ho-hum dinner into something interesting and different. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a child to help with, doesn't it?
One of the best things is that this recipe fits the skill level of the folks in the kitchen. You can make chili from scratch, or start with packaged or canned chili. Like we said: it's really not about the chili! The chili is just the background, the palette, that you'll use to create your Cincinnati masterpiece.
Cincinnati Chili is just a bit different from "regular" chili, because the chili itself has a dash of cinnamon in it. It's not enough to taste odd, but it does add a unique hint of flavor. If you're not making your chili from the recipe below, just add 2 teaspoons cinnamon to whatever you're using.
And in Cincinnati the true chili lovers enjoy their Chili 1 to 5 ways:
1. Plain
2. Spaghetti & Chili
3. Chili, Spaghetti, & Cheddar Cheese
4. Chili, Spaghetti, Cheddar Cheese, & Onions
5. Chili, Spaghetti, Cheddar Cheese, Onions & Shredded Lettuce
If you're working with very young or distractible children, you may wish to brown the ground turkey and onions in advance, and open the cans before beginning. The rest is pretty basic; remember the safety rules about always washing hands, using pot holders around heat and treating the stove with extreme respect. When in doubt, go first; if your child responds well, then include him or her in increasingly challenging tasks.
