Tyler and Longview-area Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores recently collected new backpacks to benefit the KVNE/KGLY Mission Backpack.

The backpacks will be delivered to PATH of Tyler and Buckner Children and Family Services of Longview for distribution to underprivileged children in east Texas and Dallas-based Orphan Outreach to be sent to orphan children in Russia.

Collections totaled more than 400 backpacks. Leah Coombs and Margie Shafer of KVNE/KGLY picked up the backpacks from the Brookshire Grocery Co. distribution center in Tyler.

“We are very grateful to Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods for partnering with us to make this a successful backpack collection,” said Leah Coombs, director of community outreach and donor relations for KVNE/KGLY.
