Brookshire’s Names New Scholarship Recipients

Brookshire Grocery Co. has added 12 more employees to college rosters this fall — beneficiaries of the company’s scholarship program.

“We’re very proud of the employees in our scholarship program and during the years have seen many of these aspiring leaders go on to enjoy very successful careers with our company,” said Tim Brookshire, president of the human resources and financial group.

Any employee who has been with BGC for at least a year and is interested in any area of the grocery business or its support functions is eligible to apply.

If accepted into the program, scholarship recipients must attend each regular semester until graduating. They must enroll in at least six hours each semester and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average. In most cases, recipients continue working for the company in some capacity while attending school.

The scholarship program pays for books and tuition up to a designated allowance set at the time of the initial candidate interview. Allowances range from $500 to $1,000 per semester, depending on individual circumstances.

New scholarship recipients for fall 2006 are: Kayla Scott, Shreveport, La.; Chandra McClelland, Palestine, Texas; Jeremy Grant, Shreveport, La.; Tiasha Jones, Tyler, Texas; Delilie Milton, Whitehouse, Texas; William Galt, Midlothian, Texas; Blane Chambless, Troup, Texas; Tiffani Slaughter, Jackson, Miss.; Aaron Whittington, Brandon, Miss.; Sarah Coble, West Monroe, La.; Tamekia Lavalars Pineville, La.; Misty Lightfoot, Tyler Distribution Center.
