The new Brookshire’s Food Store located at 2228 Island Bayou Road in Bonham opened its doors Wednesday, Dec. 12 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.
Construction on the much-anticipated 36,000 square-foot store began in March, although the summer rain delayed progress for several weeks.
The store replaces the original Brookshire’s that opened in 1978 and contains traditional grocery, market, delicatessen, bakery and produce departments, as well as specialty departments such as a floral shop, a pharmacy with two drive-thru lanes for convenience and a four-pump gas station.
The new store offers a variety of Health & Harmony items to meet the needs of the ever-growing health conscious population. Health & Harmony is Brookshire’s line of organic and natural products. For added convenience, the delicatessen offers a wide assortment of prepared foods, making meal times more convenient for customers.
The new Brookshire’s store boasts a décor package customized to reflect Bonham’s rich heritage including statesman Sam Rayburn and Fort Inglish along with the railroad and local sports history.
Décor photos were provided by several sources, including the Fannin County Museum of History; Sam Rayburn Library and Museum; Bonham ISD; University of Texas at Austin; Texas Historical Commission; Center for American History; and photographer Allan Rich.
“We would like to thank the community of Bonham for making us part of your family for almost 30 years,” said Charles Herpeche, store director at Brookshire’s. “We sincerely hope that you enjoy your shopping experience in this new store. We have worked hard to provide this community with the shopping conveniences they deserve. ”
