Truck drivers from Brookshire Grocery Co.’s Monroe Distribution Center were the biggest winners at the Louisiana Motor Transport Association’s annual Truck Driving Championship recently in Baton Rouge, with BGC named the Safest Fleet in Louisiana and receiving other prestigious awards.
The “Safest Fleet in Louisiana” title is awarded to the LMTA-member company with the best accident statistics and safety and training programs.BGC is one of approximately 400 companies with membership in LMTA.
The BGC team won the Fleet Safety Contest for their class and took the team trophy for the third consecutive year with an average score of 256, well exceeding the competition’s total driver average of 208. Another top award went to Tony Hester, who was named Grand Champion and who had the competition’s highest score of 374 — almost twice other drivers’ average. Hester also won first place in the three-axle division. Other BGC standouts were Huey Davenport, who won first place in Flatbed; Gary Tyler, second place in Tanker; Alan Worster, second place in four-axle; and Dan Pereira, third place in Sleeper. Other drivers who competed and helped secure the team award were Sal Mora and Brian Brown.
