April Fool's Day!Do you know how April Fool's Day started? Nobody's really sure; there are several theories floating around, but the one most people agree on has to do with New Year's Day. The first day of the year used to be in March—the first day of spring. The Romans changed to the Julian calendar, and that changed our year, as well, to begin on January 1.

A lot of people didn't get the message, though, and continued to celebrate the new year in March. These people were soon referred to as fools, and when they started celebrating, everyone else pulled pranks on them to point out how foolish they were being. Pretty soon, All Fool's Day, or April Fool's Day, moved to the first day of April. That's one of the stories, at least.

April Fool's Day pranks are good-natured jokes, not ever anything that would hurt or upset anyone. So if you're thinking of a fun way to observe April Fool's Day, how about using food?

Take a glass of milk and add some food coloring for a shocking change. Green and blue are obvious choices, but to be a bit more disgusting, try yellow. That will look more like spoiled milk!

Green eggs and ham are legendary. You can go to the trouble of adding green food color to a bowl of scrambled eggs before cooking, but there's an easier, and more-appetizing way: top your eggs and ham with something green. Guacamole or pesto sauce are great ideas, or even a handful of chopped parsley will work!

Enjoy the day; it's meant to be fun!
