TYLER, Texas, Apr. 11, 2016 – Brookshire Grocery Company is committed to and strives to meet the needs of its customers. In response to an increasing number of customers requesting cage-free eggs, BGC formally announces its intention to transition to a 100 percent cage-free egg supply chain by 2025. The company will work with current suppliers during this transition in a way that ensures eggs are safely produced and affordably priced for all of its customers.

Brookshire Grocery Company was established in 1928 and now operates three brands—Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, and FRESH by Brookshire’s. Company News: Remodeled Brookshire’s in Tyler celebrates grand reopening


TYLER, Texas, July 8, 2015 – A grand reopening celebration began today at the remodeled Brookshire’s Food Store, located at 2020 Roseland Boulevard in Tyler. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony featured Chamber of Commerce COO Henry Bell. Store Director Eric Kosmer also presented charitable donations to Good Shepherd School, Hogg Middle School and Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic School.

With the addition of 1,100 square feet, the supermarket’s renovations reflect a modern design throughout, beginning outside with a new storefront and a single, relocated entrance. Other cosmetic updates include new interior and exterior signage, paint, lighting and décor, along with many energy-efficient and sustainable features such as polished concrete flooring and an automated lighting control system for refrigerated and freezer cases. The store also received new check stands, new customer restrooms and a new fleet of shopping carts.

Departments throughout the store were updated to feature an expanded variety of products and services. In produce, customers can find more organic selections, as well as fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and freshly squeezed juices. The renovated bakery offers tortillas and bolillo rolls baked in-store daily, along with custom cakes for all occasions. In the deli, customers can select from several convenient, ready-to-eat meal options and get gourmet deli meats and cheeses sliced to order. The freshest cuts of meat and seafood are available at the full-service market counter, with custom cuts available upon request. An expanded variety of fine wines and craft beers are available in the relocated beer and wine section. Additionally, the store offers more gluten-free products and an increased variety of health foods and supplements. A self-serve bulk section will also soon be installed.

Brookshire’s updated pharmacy will continue to fill name-brand and generic prescriptions, while offering a full selection of non-prescription medicines and health and personal care products. The generic prescription program provides savings on 30-, 60- and 90-day generic prescriptions.

All BGC stores feature the NuVal nutritional scoring system, which scores food on a scale of 1 to 100. The higher the NuVal score, the better the nutrition. Customers can use this at-a-glance program to easily determine the overall nutritional value of products and make informed decisions.

The grand opening festivities will continue throughout the following weeks with special giveaways and promotions. From July 8-12, the first 500 customers will receive a free item coupon each day starting at 8 a.m. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through July 26, customers who spend $100 or more in a single transaction will receive 1,000 bonus yourpoints (some exclusions apply). In addition, customers who fill new or transferred prescriptions at Brookshire’s pharmacy through Oct. 14 will receive 1,000 free yourpoints. More special offers will be featured in the weekly grocery ads.

CHANDLER, Texas, July 8, 2015 – An official ribbon-cutting ceremony today marked the beginning of the grand reopening celebration at the remodeled and expanded Brookshire’s Food and Pharmacy in Chandler. Mayor Libby Fulgham, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rick Ford  addressed the crowd at the ceremony, and Store Director Mike Wilson also presented charitable donations to God’s Open Hands, Chandler Elementary and the Chandler Volunteer Fire Department.

The supermarket reflects a modern design throughout, beginning outside with a new storefront and a single, relocated entrance. The new fuel center, which opened in November, allows customers to redeem yourpoints for discounts on gas, while new check stands, new customer restrooms and a new fleet of shopping carts provide additional customer convenience.

More than 10,000 square feet was added to the facility to allow for the expansion of several departments, which now feature a wider variety of products and services. In produce, customers can find more organic selections, as well as fresh-cut fruits and vegetables. The renovated bakery offers tortillas and bolillo rolls baked in-store daily, along with custom cakes for all occasions. In addition to a new seating area to dine in-store, the deli offers customers several ready-to-eat meal options, gourmet deli meats and cheeses sliced to order and a new olive bar. The freshest cuts of meat and seafood are available at the full-service market counter, with custom cuts available upon request. An expanded variety of fine wines and craft beers are available in the updated beer and wine section. Additionally, the store offers more gluten-free products.

Company News: Traci George named a ‘Top Woman in Grocery’


Traci George named a ‘Top Woman in Grocery’TYLER, Texas, June 24, 2015 – Traci George, a pharmacy zone manager for Brookshire Grocery Company, was recently recognized as a “Top Woman in Grocery” by Progressive Grocer magazine.

Now in its ninth year, the Top Women in Grocery awards program recognizes leading women in the retail food industry for their strong leadership and influence in their companies and for their community involvement. Winners are named in three categories: Senior-Level Executives, Rising Stars and Store Managers. George was recognized in the Rising Stars category.

A 20-year BGC employee, George supervises pharmacies in 23 East Texas stores, ensuring compliance with government regulations and company policies and procedures.

George holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s in life sciences from University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She is also a member of the Texas Pharmacy Association and is a Blue and Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy. George and her husband, Clint, have two sons, Nathan and Jacob.

A 10-year Brookshire Grocery Co. employee, Johnston was among the 25 national winners recognized June 8-10 at the UFPA’s trade show in Chicago.

UFPA’s Retail Produce Manager Awards Program honors exceptional produce managers from across the United States and Canada who consistently focus on increasing the sales and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

This marks the 10th consecutive year that a BGC employee has been honored with this award.

Company News: BGC’s Glenn Terrell Competes in National Cooking Showdown


BGC’s Glenn Terrell Competes in National Cooking ShowdownTYLER, Texas, June 17, 2015 – Glenn Terrell, corporate executive chef for Brookshire Grocery Company, was one of 15 national finalists who competed June 10 in the Food Marketing Institute’s 2015 Supermarket Chef Showdown in Chicago.

Terrell was among the 95 chefs from supermarkets throughout the United States who submitted nearly 300 recipes for consideration in this year’s competition. Categories included Breakfast to Go, Holiday Party Platters, Ethnic Dishes, Affordable Family Meals and Desserts.

Terrell competed with two other finalists in the desserts category, preparing his recipe for “Texas Buttermilk Panna Cotta.” Ultimately, a chef from Iowa-based grocery chain Hy-Vee, Inc. was named the category winner.

The Supermarket Chef Showdown was created in 2012 by the Food Marketing Institute to spotlight the culinary talents of chefs who are driving fresh-prepared food trends.

Company News: Tickets for 5th Annual Futbol de las Rosas on sale


TYLER, Texas, June 8, 2015 – Get ready, East Texas soccer fans. The fifth annual “Futbol de las Rosas” is coming June 20 to Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler, thanks to sponsors Super 1 Foods, Brookshire’s, the Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance and several national vendors.

Two Sub20 soccer teams from Mexico – Club Leon de Guanajuato and Tigres de Monterrey – will face off in the international soccer exhibition, which draws thousands of fans annually from throughout East Texas and surrounding areas.

Advanced tickets are on sale now at participating Super 1 Foods stores in Tyler, Longview, Mt. Pleasant and Marshall. General admission is $12 for ages 6 and up, or group tickets in bundles of five can be purchased for $35 (a $25 savings). Children ages five and under receive free admission. Tickets may also be purchased at the doors, but quantities are limited.

Kick-off for the premier game is set for 6:30pm, with doors opening at 3:30pm for special pre-game entertainment including games, activities, product samples and door prize drawings. In addition, a game featuring two local Hispanic soccer leagues – the Tyler Jaguars and FC Tyler – will kick off at 4pm.

Company News: BGC wins national awards for dairy products


TYLER, Texas, June 5, 2015 – Brookshire Grocery Co.’s dairy and ice cream plants recently took top honors for operations and product quality at the All Star Dairy Association’s annual convention in Tuscon, Arizona.

The company received the Best Buttermilk Award for its Brookshire’s brand buttermilk, Most Improved Plant honors for its dairy plant, and Exceeds Industry Standards for both its dairy and ice cream/culture plants.

Through a rigorous, yearlong process, the All Star Dairy Association reviewed approximately 250 dairy and ice cream plants in 45 states, as well as in Canada and Puerto Rico, to deter­mine the winners.

Products manufactured by BGC are produced in Tyler and can be found in all Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores, as well as at FRESH by Brookshire’s. Brands include Goldenbrook Ice Cream, Valu Time and Full Circle labels. Products include ice cream, frozen yogurt, sour cream, yogurt, ice, bakery items, milk, juice, water, tea and other beverages. Some products are available in natural, organic, low-fat, sugar-free and no-sugar-added varieties. All ice cream and dairy products are certified kosher.

Company News: BGC announces Earth Day recycling campaign results


TYLER, Texas, June 5, 2015 – Some 3,750 trees will be planted in the Lost Pines Forest near Bastrop, Texas, as a result of Brookshire Grocery Company’s special plastics recycling campaign conducted April 20-26.

More than 125,000 pounds of plastic bags, bottles and jugs were collected for recycling during this weeklong event, which was hosted at all Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, along with FRESH by Brookshire’s in Tyler. All recycling revenue from the collected plastic was donated to the Arbor Day Foundation to help with the recovery of the portions of Lost Pines Forest that was burned in the wildfires of 2011.

As a result, more than 20 acres of trees will be planted, and more than 1.8 million water bottles and 182,000 gallon jugs have been diverted from landfills, where they would have spent up to the next 450 years decomposing.

Company News: Brookshire’s in Minden officially reopens after renovations


MINDEN, Louisiana, May 21, 2015 – Grand reopening activities began today at the remodeled Brookshire’s in Minden, located at 205 Homer Road. Mayor Tommy Davis, Chamber of Commerce President Jerri Ray de Pingré and Brookshire Grocery Co. Chairman of the Board Brad Brookshire addressed the crowd at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Store Director Mark Sandefur also presented charitable donations to the United Christian Association Program, Minden High School and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals.

Renovations began in October on the now 31,690-square-foot store, which included the addition of 330 square feet to allow for a new storefront and relocated entrance, new customer restrooms, a new customer service office and a new employee training room. Several departments throughout the store were also updated including the bakery, which features freshly baked breads and custom cakes, and the deli, where customers will find an expanded gourmet cheese case, convenient ready-to-eat meals and quality deli meats and cheeses sliced to order. The expanded produce department now features a wide variety of organic items and fresh locally grown produce, along with fresh-cut fruits and vegetables. In the market, customers can purchase meat that is cut fresh daily, with special cuts available upon request.

Other improvements include new paint, décor and signage, new check stands, a new floral display area and environmentally friendly features such as polished concrete flooring, which requires fewer cleaning agents, and an automated lighting control system.

The Minden location, along with all other Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores, also features the NuVal nutritional scoring system. With NuVal, thousands of items throughout the store are scored on a scale of 1 to 100. The higher an item’s NuVal score, the better the nutrition. Customers can use this at-a-glance program to easily determine the overall nutritional value of products and make informed decisions.

The grand opening festivities will continue throughout the following weeks with special promotions. Through May 24, the first 500 customers will receive a free item coupon each day starting at 8am. In addition, for a limited time customers can earn $5 off their grocery purchase of $50 or more in a single transaction (some exclusions apply). More special offers will be featured in-store, in the weekly grocery ads and via email.
