Spring is a favorite season for many people, and it is certainly easy to understand why this is so. Spring is when the trees begin to bud, flowers start to bloom, and gardeners plant their first seedlings. There is no doubt that this is a beautiful time of the year.
Around my home, Spring means different things to each family member. My animal loving daughter is outside creating her own world with her many animal friends. My son is dressed in his army gear, building forts in the back yard, while my husband is planning his next big home makeover project. That leaves me keeping up with all of them, while trying to find time for a few of my own projects.
The Spring weather has allowed us to tackle some of these projects around the house while keeping the whole family involved in what I like to call “family time”. It really doesn’t matter what we are doing during “family time” it’s just about being together. My daughter enjoys doing things outdoors, so last weekend we decided to put in a small vegetable garden. She and I picked the perfect location… in our flowerbed. Not a lot of work required here. We hoed a section till the soil looked just right for planting. Then together we planted onions, yellow bell peppers and chives. She helps with watering and looks forward to seeing the garden’s progress every day. Hopefully the end results will be that she and I together can harvest our fresh vegetables and I can show her how to prepare them in a delicious meal for the family.
So, while the weather is right, get outdoors and enjoy Spring and some quality “family time”. Plant a small vegetable garden, rake leaves, wash the car, or simply have dinner outside on the patio. Whatever you choose for your “family time” you can rest assure your kids will remember the time you spent with them!
