The Food Sales Association has named five BGC partners in Texas stores as recipients in its annual college scholarship program. They include: Ruthie Battee, No. 625 in Tyler; Kristina Hopkins, No. 129 in Denton; Maria Mendez, No. 109 in Daingerfield; Kristin Welsh, No. 97 in Aledo; and Emilie Zavala, No. 131 in Anna.
Each partner will receive $1,000 from FSA with BGC matching an additional $1,000 to help with tuition and books at a Texas university or college of her choice.
“This program provides scholarships for deserving employee-students to continue their careers in the retail food industry,” said Rick Rayford, president and CEO for BGC. “We are proud of each one and wish them the best in their future endeavors at school and at work taking care of customers.”
Requirements include working for a food retailer and possessing a genuine career interest in that field, attending a Texas college or university with a minimum of six credit hours per semester, and successfully completing a thorough interview process with industry professionals.
FSA is a professional non-profit organization made up of food retailers from across north and east Texas.
